Fomapan 200 suited me better.

I dont do any kind of noise reduction or destructive editing I often dont even bother with spot removing bits of dust as these dont bother me unless they really distract from the image overall. FWIW, I develop at home using HC-110 and Rodinal.

If you finally realise that the film will expire, then it would be far more practical to bulk load whatever quantity you have and put the loaded film in the freezer. Kentmere 400 feels like Tri-X with less dynamic range. I recently wrote a 5 Frames With Fomapan 400 where I described the results shot at EI1600 with a 2 stop push. Ill have to try it now; thanks for the recommendation! Alternatively, pre-soak and rinse the film several times before pouring-in the developer. At 400 a lot seemed more prone to be flat especially when there was no brighter contrasting light in the scene, but every once in a while I would get a grainy but pleasantly moody image usually when there was some medium light in combination with shadow that was not very dark.

Ive never had an issue with a frame of film being too soft as a result of anything other than user error in terms of mis-focusing it. Notice the lost detail in both the figure and the highlight of the water. These films are reasonably similarly priced, at around 25 for a pack of 5x 36-shot rolls at time of writing.

When shot with different exposures in mind, in different kinds of conditions, these films can produce quite a few looks. I think the character of these films are the elements that remain consistent through most use cases. These images show how much information is available in these highlights when metered and exposed dead-on, as well as what detail is retained within the shadows and what is lost.
