The 4th Annual Black Comic Book Festival at the Schomburg Center of Black Research in Harlem had an overwhelming amount of attendees and comic books enthusiasts come out to support black comic book publishers, writers and illustrators. The 2019-2020 class of the Schomburg Center's Junior Scholars Program is pleased to present By Any Means Necessary, a digital project based in part on a yearlong study of Malcolm X. education at the schomburg 12. the junior scholars program.
Yet, our scholars persevered in the face of great challenges.
Saturday, June 12 at 11 AM: 'Til We Free: The 19th Annual Junior Scholars Program Youth Summit Monday, June 14. The Schomburg Center is excited to unveil its list of programs and highlights coming up throughout the months of May through August 2017. The Scholars-in-Residence Program has been made possible by generous support from the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Aaron Diamond Foundation, the Irene Diamond Foundation, the Pitts Family Foundation, the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation, the Andrew W.Mellon Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Through this program, the Schomburg's Junior Scholars increase their historical literacy, expand their knowledge of who they are as intellectual, social, cultural and artistic beings, embrace their legacy as African-American citizens, and learn about the cultures of their prolific and trailblazing ancestors.
Collectively, we witnessed Black lives cut brutally short, families severed, and communities traumatized -- already a reality for them before George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and COVID-19. Before joining the Scholars Program, she was having some issues with her eighth grade school work. Each project contains interpretive answers and responses to issues Malcolm X confronted during his life.
The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers is an international fellowship program open to people whose work will benefit directly from access to the collections at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Buildingincluding academics, independent scholars, and . This tuition-free Saturday program (10 AM to 3 PM) during the academic year promotes historical literacy through college-style lectures and presentations, group discussions and activities, and project-based learning.
The program support scholars who would benefit from research conducted on-site at the Schomburg Center, Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center, or the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.
The program is in keeping with Spectrum's ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion and service of local communities. It is structured around seven tutorials .
The online applications for the 2023-2024 class have closed. During the year, participants attend college-style lectures and seminars where are they are taught history from leading scholars.
